RoboRangers: A New Generation!
By: Cassopolis, Mich.
When you think of Robotics you probably think of the people who build the robot, and rightfully so. Those people build and program the very thing that makes a robotics competition. However, there are other aspects of robotics that need to be recognized. The Cassopolis RoboRangers team is composed of two parts: the build side and the business side. Each side is divided into smaller “special teams,” all in support of getting the robot to competition.
The build side builds the robot. The business side, which is just as important, is in charge of things such as sponsorships, marketing, and finances. The RoboRangers strive to do well in all aspects of robotics, and learn a lot along the way.
In order for students to learn anything in robotics, of course, there must be people willing to teach and guide. The RoboRangers are proud to say they have gained two new mentors this season: John Fox and Ron Goodger. They both instruct and help students on the build side. Ron Goodger is happy to be a mentor for the team - not only to support his grandson, but all the members. Goodger has been an electrical engineer for more than 30 years, and thinks that ro-botics is important because the world is evolving around technology. John Fox, a retired engi-neer, studied abroad and taught college engineering classes. He enjoys working with students and teaching them about engineering. Fox believes robotics is important because it’s a fun tool to learn about business, science, and engineering. Both Ron and John believe that robotics teach-es students valuable skills they can use in real life.
The first robotics competition is nearing! In St. Joseph on March 9th, the team will pack up their robot and bring some Ranger spirit to the competition!
